How do I set up my web site?

First you should know how to use the two types of programs needed to create and post your web pages, they are:

HTML Editor
FTP program

HTML Editor

Both Microsoft and Netscape offer a free and very simple WYSIWYG HTML editors, Netscape Composer and Microsoft Front Page Express respectively. To get started with web page design and programming, it is a very good idea to use either of these programs. Both will help you get familiar with the Web page programming and also get you started quickly with their simple interface and visual feed back. You do not need to know any HTML programming to use either programs, but minimum computer knowledge is very helpful.

FTP program

We recommend using an FTP program like CuteFTP or WebDrive. These are not free but can be downloaded and tried for 30 days before you purchase them. You can obtain the latest version from their web site at the following addresses:

After you have the software installed, and became familiar with them. You will need to upload the pages that you have created to the server, so it is visible on the World Wide Web. In order to do that you will use your FTP program.
Point your FTP program to ftp.net-star.net as your server.
Use the same user name and password as you do to connect to Netstar for your dial-up connection.

Please be reminded that: When you connect through the FTP program, you are connected directly to your web site, so please be careful. What you upload will be available to EVERYONE IMMEDIATELY.

How much space do I have?
For your personal web space, you are assigned 5 MB at no charge.

What is a personal web space?
 Personal web space is a value added service to our members offered at no additional charge. It can be used for anything that is not commercial.
